In memory of Paul Miedema

We are heartbroken as we come to terms with the sudden passing of Paul Miedema, founder of both Calabash Tours and Calabash Trust. We will remember Paul for his passion, dedication and contribution towards responsible tourism, for his championing of pro-poor tourism in the Nelson Mandela Bay surrounds, and for the platform he built for all of us to continue the journey to equality and social justice.

Paul never took the easy path, his actions always underpinning his beliefs, his activist spirit has inspired many and will continue to do so for years to come..

We would like to reassure our partners and schools that our Calabash team remains committed to continuing the good work that Paul pioneered. We ask for your understanding as we navigate a world without him.

A memorial ceremony celebrating his life and service will be held on Saturday, 11 February at 11am at the Summerstrand Hotel (Marine Drive, Port Elizabeth).

Paul impacted the lives of many. His family, friends and the Calabash staff are eternally grateful for the unyielding support and warm wishes that we have received over the past few days.

Should you require any assistance please contact the relevant people below. Messages of condolence can be sent to either of the two e-mail addresses.
